BREAKING: Blockbuster Poll Shows Lander Virtually “Neck and Neck” With Cuomo & “Has the Most Upside”

Poll by Independent Gotham Polling and Analytics finds Lander beats all Cuomo contenders in ranked choice voting, getting 31% in final round

Pollster to New York Post: “This is much closer than it looks at the end. All they have to do is knock two points off Cuomo…and then Cuomo and Lander are neck-and-neck.”

Pollster Stephen Graves: “[Lander] has the most upside”

NEW YORK — A new poll released today by Gotham Polling and Analytics, unaffiliated with any campaign, shows that Brad Lander leads the pack of mayoral candidates to take on disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the race to City Hall. The survey finds that in the seventh and final round, Lander would secure 31% of the vote against Cuomo, with the next Cuomo opponent behind him at 18%.

“This poll confirms what we already knew: Brad Lander’s campaign is surging at just the right time – and while Andrew Cuomo leads in name recognition at this early phase, Brad has the most grassroots support, widest political coalition, strongest momentum and clearest path to beat the disgraced former governor,” said Campaign Manager Alison Hirsh. “The question before New Yorkers now is: do you want another four years of a corrupt chaos agent, only in this race for his personal gain — or someone with strong, experienced leadership, outstanding public integrity, and real solutions to tackle our toughest problems?”

“This is much closer than it looks at the end,” David Schwartz told The New York Post. “Really, all they have to do is knock two points off Cuomo, then Mamdani gets knocked out and then Cuomo and Lander are neck-and-neck.”

The poll finds Lander with the highest margins of all candidates with 68% saying they could vote for him, and just 32% noting they could not cast ballots in his favor. “[Lander] has the most upside,” pollster Stephen Graves told The Post.

Meanwhile, Cuomo’s negatives are hard to overcome: 42% of those surveyed said they’d never vote for Andrew Cuomo and nearly 40% said his history of scandals make him unfit for office.

The poll comes on the heels of tremendous momentum for Lander’s campaign, which announced the broadest coalition of support last month including NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, New York State Finance Chair Liz Krueger, State Senator Andrew Gounardes, Assemblymember Robert Carroll, and Councilmember Tiffany Cabán. He also leads the field in fundraising and democratic club endorsements enabling him to have all the resources needed to communicate his vision and record to New Yorkers.

The poll echoes the finding of polls from the Manhattan Institute, Honan Strategy Group, and Lander’s own internal poll, conducted by the nationally renowned Global Strategy Group, in December. The independent Honan poll found Lander defeating all Cuomo contenders, including Eric Adams, in both initial and ranked choice voting.
