Make the Road Action Ranks Brad Lander First for Mayor
MRA: “[Lander] fought alongside MRA members for well over a decade, and earned the first place ranking because of his commitment to support working-class communities of color [and] his experience with City Government”
NEW YORK, NY — Today, Make the Road Action (MRA) — the grassroots advocacy organization representing immigrant, Black, and brown communities across New York City — endorsed Brad Lander first for Mayor.
MRA’s #1 rank endorsement of Lander adds to his broad and diverse coalition of support. Notably, in addition to being a political force on its own, MRA sits on the executive board of the Working Families Party (WFP), who released an unranked slate that also included Lander last month.
“Brad Lander has shown up. He has fought alongside MRA members for well over a decade, and earned the first place ranking because of his commitment to support working-class communities of color, his experience with City Government, and how he has prioritized policies to make New York more affordable and livable for all,” said Make the Road Action.
“Alongside Make the Road Action, I’ve fought for tenants, immigrants, and even got arrested for protesting carwasheros getting their wages stolen," said Brad Lander. "I’m honored that our years-long fights for equality and justice have resulted in the premier advocacy group ranking me as their top choice to run New York City.”
No other candidate has the legacy within the top advocacy organization more than Lander. For over a decade, Lander and MRA worked together to pass the Community Safety and the Right to Know Acts to put an end to discriminatory stop and frisk policies. They stood up for workers’ rights, even getting arrested protesting carwasheros getting their wages stolen.
Lander has the deepest and widest coalition of any candidate in the race, with support from NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, State Senator Liz Krueger, State Senator Andrew Gounardes, Assemblymember Robert Carroll, Councilmember Tiffany Cabán. He recently secured the endorsements of the Working Families Party, Congressman Greg Casar, and Assembly Member Khaleel Anderson.
Lander also leads the mayoral pack in Democratic club endorsements, including Indivisible Brooklyn, 504 Dems, Unity Dems, Three Parks Democrats, Broadway Democrats, Village Independent Democrats, Upper West Side Action Group, Hell’s Kitchen Democrats, Bay Ridge Democrats, Independent Neighborhood Democrats, New Kings Dems, College Democrats of America, and Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats.
Lander has also received endorsements from UAW Region 9A, New York Progressive Action Network, JFREJ, Emgage, and NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees. Lander’s campaign has raised over $7.2 million and will soon surpass the mayoral race’s $8.3 million spending cap.
