NEW YORK, NY — Today, State Senator Liz Krueger, one of the most respected and influential elected officials in New York, endorsed Brad Lander for Mayor. Chair of the Senate Finance Committee since 2019, Krueger has represented the East Side, including Midtown and the Upper East Side (UES), in the state senate since 2002. Krueger joined Lander outside the UES’ iconic Butterfield Market to give him her number one endorsement.
“New York City needs a leader with the management experience, integrity, and vision to manage a city of 8 million and a budget of $115 billion, and Brad Lander is the best candidate for the job,” said State Senator Liz Krueger. “I’ve known Brad for decades. He is a dedicated public servant whose effective, bold leadership delivers real results. In the face of Donald Trump and the never-ending corruption of Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo, it's time for competence — which is why I'm proud to throw my full support behind Brad today.”
“Senator Krueger is an institution on the East Side of Manhattan, and to have her support of my candidacy for Mayor, with her decades of dedicated and effective leadership in the state senate, is deeply meaningful for me,” said Brad Lander. “Senator Krueger’s support shows that our campaign has earned the confidence of our best public servants in having the strongest path to City Hall — and solidifies our position as the only campaign in this race with a broad enough coalition to end the Adams-Cuomo nightmare of corruption and chaos.”
Krueger and Lander have a long history of leading critical political efforts together, including urging President Biden to grant work authorization to asylum seekers in New York City; advocating for the Climate Change Superfund Act, a recently-enacted state bill to make big polluters pay for climate disaster repairs, instead of taxpayers; and leading a coalition of Jewish elected officials who signed an open letter in February 2024 calling for a temporary ceasefire and negotiations for hostage releases in Gaza.
Senator Krueger is a founding co-chair of the New York State Bipartisan Legislative Pro-Choice Caucus, and has led on women’s health and reproductive choice since her first term in the Senate, when she was a leader in the successful fight to pass the Women’s Health and Wellness Act. Sen. Krueger’s legislative initiatives include protecting and expanding affordable housing for New Yorkers, protecting New York’s environment and public health from threats such as hydraulic fracturing for natural gas (“hydrofracking”), and expanding access to food stamps and safety net assistance for needy families and individuals.
