UAW Region 9A Endorses Brad Lander for Mayor

NEW YORK - The United Auto Workers Region 9A today announced it is endorsing Brad Lander to be the next Mayor of New York City. The union cited the importance of a candidate who will protect collective bargaining, rights of union members and free speech in making its decision.

“UAW members keep New York City’s museums, universities, publishers, legal service providers, and yes, even auto dealerships running. I’ve been honored to stand arm-in-arm with them in fights for fairness and dignity in the workplace, to guarantee good legal representation and prevent evictions, and to expand civil rights for all New Yorkers — so I’m deeply honored to have their support,” Brad Lander said. “I’m grateful for the bold work the UAW is doing on behalf of workers under their new national and regional leadership, and excited to partner with them to bring the change that working New Yorkers urgently need to City Hall.”

“There’s no UAW picket line in NYC without Brad Lander there, he stands with us without fail,” said Brandon Mancilla, Director of UAW Region 9A. “Brad knows the city, how it works, and how to help working people. Today we are proud to stand with him and endorse him in our UAW champion mayoral slate!”

UAW Region 9A covers eastern New York (including the New York City metropolitan area, the Hudson Valley and the Capital District area), Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Puerto Rico.

It is a diverse region representing a variety of workers, including graduate employees and human service workers, and those at cultural organizations, nonprofits, legal services, higher education, small manufacturing, movie theaters and auto dealerships.
