504 Democrats Endorses Brad Lander for Mayor
NEW YORK, NY — Today, 504 Democrats, the first democratic club in New York City for whose endorsement process Andrew Cuomo formally participated, endorsed Brad Lander for Mayor. 504 Democrats is the first political club in the country focusing on the issues of concern to the community of people with disabilities.
“From his office’s MTA bus audits to their regular disability justice roundtables, Brad Lander has been the fiercest advocate for New Yorkers with disabilities, which is why we’re proud to endorse him as the next Mayor of this City,” said 504 Dems President Mike Schweinsburg. “We need a Mayor not only with strong management experience and the brains for the job, but also one with integrity and decency that New Yorkers can feel proud to get behind. Brad Lander is that candidate — for New Yorkers of all abilities.”
“I’m deeply honored to have earned the endorsement of 504 Democrats, who have long championed the inclusion of people with disabilities in the political and social fabric of New York,” said Brad Lander. “My entire career in non-profits and public service has been driven by a central mission to make our City work for every New Yorker. When I’m Mayor, I’ll build on the amazing work that I’ve done as City Councilmember and Comptroller with 504 Democrats and deliver a safer, more affordable, better run New York City for all.”
The endorsement comes alongside Lander’s new report in the Comptroller’s Office that found the MTA’s express bus service routinely leaves riders with disabilities without reliable, safe, respectful, or on-time service. Lander also hired the Comptroller’s first community liaison for people with disabilities, has hosted numerous disability justice roundtables (including one yesterday), advocated for congestion pricing to ensure the MTA reaches its accessibility goals, and published the office’s first five year accessibility plan.
In the just past 24 hours, Lander also secured the endorsements of Congressman Greg Casar, who he’s joining for an Instagram Live tonight at 7:30 PM EST, and Indivisible Brooklyn.
Lander leads the mayoral pack in Democratic club endorsements, including Bay Ridge Democrats, Three Parks Democrats, Broadway Democrats, Village Independent Democrats, Upper West Side Action Group, Hell’s Kitchen Democrats, Independent Neighborhood Democrats, New Kings Dems, and Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats.
Lander has also received endorsements from UAW Region 9A, New York Progressive Action Network, JFREJ, and NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees, and support from the widest coalition of elected officials, including NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, State Senator Liz Krueger, State Senator Andrew Gounardes, Assemblymember Robert Carroll, and Councilmember Tiffany Cabán.
Lander’s total campaign coffers at over $6.71 million, well above the pace needed to surpass the mayoral race’s $8.3 million spending cap.
