NEW YORK, NY — Today, at City Hall Park, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso endorsed Brad Lander as his #1 ranking for Mayor.
“Whether it’s more housing, livable streets or more affordable communities, Brad Lander will be a Mayor for every borough and every neighborhood in New York City,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. “For too long, Latinos have been an afterthought for elected officials that we help put into office. It's about time we have someone that has been shown to work to support Latino issues and understands us in City Hall - and that person is Brad Lander.”
Reynoso reiterated that Latino voters cannot be left behind in this mayor’s race, as they have been time and time again – and that New York City can do better than self-serving politicians marred by corruption: “Latino voters are constantly told who to vote for: for people who don’t follow through on their commitments, for people who sell us dreams, and these big purchases that we never get, for representation that we never get, in the Mayor’s office,” Reynoso continued. “What we need now are effective leaders that have already proven to us that they look out for our interests…that leader is Brad Lander.”
“I am so honored to earn the endorsement of Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. I have known Antonio for over a decade, and he continues to be one of the most effective, compassionate leaders in our City who knows how to truly leverage government to improve the lives of New Yorkers,” said Brad Lander. “From reforming comprehensive city planning processes to fighting for a more just criminal justice system, I look forward to partnering closely with Antonio when I’m Mayor to deliver a City that’s safer, more affordable, and better run.”
Lander and Reynoso have worked in tandem in New York City government for years to deliver wins for working families like police reform and affordable housing in Brooklyn and across all five boroughs. Lander supported Reynoso when he first ran for City Council in 2013, and in every subsequent election. Lander and Reynoso partnered in the City Council to build the Progressive Caucus and elect Melissa Mark-Viverito Council Speaker.
Lander proudly supported Reynoso’s push to pass Local Law 199 in 2019, which was designed to overhaul the commercial waste industry by establishing new safety standards for workers in the commercial carting industry and reducing emissions from waste hauling vehicles. Lander and Reynoso have also worked together to advocate for comprehensive city planning to improve land-use decisions that consider affordability, climate change, and growth.
The Brooklyn Borough President’s endorsement comes on the heels of Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, State Senator Julia Salazar, Assemblymember Emily Gallagher, and City Councilmembers Jennifer Gutiérrez, Sandy Nurse and, Lincoln Restler endorsing Brad Lander for Mayor last week, as a way of electing a “steady hand” to lead New York City, in a slate with Adrienne Adams and Zohran Mamdani.
Lander has the deepest and widest coalition of any candidate in the race, with additional support from Congressman Greg Casar, NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, State Senators Liz Krueger and Andrew Gournardes, Assembly Members Khaleel Anderson, Robert Carroll, and Phara Souffrant Forrest, and Councilmembers Tiffany Cabán and Chi Ossé. Lander also has the coveted endorsements of the Working Families Party, College Democrats of America, UAW Region 9A, New York Progressive Action Network, JFREJ, Emgage, and NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees.
He leads the mayoral pack in Democratic club endorsements, including Indivisible Brooklyn, 504 Dems, Unity Dems, Three Parks Democrats, Broadway Democrats, Village Independent Democrats, Upper West Side Action Group, Hell’s Kitchen Democrats, Bay Ridge Democrats, Independent Neighborhood Democrats, New Kings Dems, and Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats. Lander’s campaign has raised over $7.2 million and will soon surpass the mayoral race’s $8.3 million spending cap.
