Councilmember Chi Ossé Endorses Brad Lander for Mayor
Ossé: “In this political moment, our city needs someone with the experience to captain this ship through uncharted waters, and the proven track record to make shit work”
NEW YORK, NY — Today, Councilmember Chi Ossé endorsed Brad Lander for Mayor, alongside Adrienne Adams and Zohran Mamdani in an unranked endorsement. Lander and Ossé have a deep history of mutual support and friendship: in the City Council, Lander co-founded the Progressive Caucus of which Councilmember Ossé is part. At the Comptroller’s office, Lander helped the Caucus launch its successful campaign to secure $2 billion in City capital for affordable housing. And last year, Lander testified in support of Councilmember Ossé’s bill to end broker fees in New York City, the FARE Act.
“Brad Lander has selflessly served our city for longer than I’ve been alive and would be a highly effective and transformative Mayor,” said Councilmember Chi Ossé. “In this political moment, our city needs someone with the experience to captain this ship through uncharted waters, and the proven track record to make shit work: A progressive who deeply understands the levers of government, and can use them to protect us against Trump’s attacks. That’s why I’m endorsing Brad Lander for mayor.”
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of one of the most effective — and coolest — council members in New York City,” said Brad Lander. “Chi and I have long shared the same vision for the City, one where we can defiantly stand up to fascists in the White House, end the cycles of corruption plaguing City Hall, and prove our democratic values actually work for all New Yorkers. I’m proud that Chi knows I’m running for Mayor to solve the city’s problems, not my own, and that I will bring a lifelong career of effective and honest public service to the city I love.”
Last week, Lander earned the #1 endorsement from Make the Road Action, CUFFH Action, and the Upper East Side’s Four Freedoms Democratic Club, as well as support from Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez and six other Brooklyn democrats: Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, State Senator Julia Salazar, Assemblymember Emily Gallagher, and City Councilmembers Jennifer Gutiérrez, Sandy Nurse and, Lincoln Restler.
Lander has the deepest and widest coalition of any candidate in the race, with additional support from Congressman Greg Casar, NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, State Senators Liz Krueger and Andrew Gournardes, Assembly Members Khaleel Anderson, Robert Carroll, and Phara Souffrant Forrest, and Councilmember Tiffany Cabán.
Lander also secured the coveted endorsements of the Working Families Party, College Democrats of America, UAW Region 9A, New York Progressive Action Network, JFREJ, Emgage, and NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees.
He leads the mayoral pack in Democratic club endorsements, including Indivisible Brooklyn, 504 Dems, Unity Dems, Three Parks Democrats, Broadway Democrats, Village Independent Democrats, Upper West Side Action Group, Hell’s Kitchen Democrats, Bay Ridge Democrats, Independent Neighborhood Democrats, New Kings Dems, and Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats. Lander’s campaign has raised over $7.2 million and will soon surpass the mayoral race’s $8.3 million spending cap.
