Landemonium: Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez and Six Brooklyn Democrats Endorse Lander for Mayor
NEW YORK, NY — Today, Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez and six Brooklyn Democrats — Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, State Senator Julia Salazar, Assemblymember Emily Gallagher, and City Councilmembers Jennifer Gutiérrez, Sandy Nurse and, Lincoln Restler — endorsed Brad Lander for Mayor, as a way of electing a “steady hand” to lead New York City. The powerful group also endorsed Adrienne Adams and Zohran Mamdani.
In an interview, Congresswoman Velázquez said voters deserved a Mayor who would stand up for working-class people and that Lander has the “integrity, decency and the desire to work with everyone to put the best interests of New Yorkers first.”
“From championing job protections to fighting for reliable transportation, Brad Lander has long been one of my most steadfast partners in fighting for a city where all can thrive. As Comptroller, he’s held government accountable and worked to combat the city’s affordability crisis. I’m excited about Brad's mayoral candidacy,” said Antonio Reynoso about Lander's leadership when he joined him at his campaign launch.
“Brad Lander is an experienced and accomplished politician. He is a thoughtful, detail-oriented lawmaker with citywide management experience. He's been a mentor to me and for many years has always treated my office with incredible respect and support,” said Emily Gallagher.
“After representing Brooklyn for over a decade and raising my children in this borough, I’m moved by the powerhouse group led by Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez endorsing me for Mayor,” said Brad Lander. “New Yorkers don’t want to replace one corrupt politician for another, and I’m proud that my track record of honesty and integrity and making the City work is seen by my fellow Brooklyn electeds.”
Lander has the deepest and widest coalition of any candidate in the race, with support from Congressman Greg Casar, NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, State Senators Liz Krueger and Andrew Gounardes, Assembly Members Khaleel Anderson and Robert Carroll, and Councilmember Tiffany Cabán.
Lander recently secured the endorsements of the Working Families Party, CUFFH, Make the Road, and College Democrats of America. He leads the mayoral pack in Democratic club endorsements, including Indivisible Brooklyn, 504 Dems, Unity Dems, Three Parks Democrats, Broadway Democrats, Village Independent Democrats, Upper West Side Action Group, Hell’s Kitchen Democrats, Bay Ridge Democrats, Independent Neighborhood Democrats, New Kings Dems, and Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats.
Lander has also received endorsements from UAW Region 9A, New York Progressive Action Network, JFREJ, Emgage, and NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees. Lander’s campaign has raised over $7.2 million and will soon surpass the mayoral race’s $8.3 million spending cap.
